I completed my oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Minnesota in 2000 and entered private practice . After working in a multi-doctor practice for several years, I opened my own practice in 2009. After over two decades practicing the work has taken a toll. I credit much of my ability to continue to practice to Chuck Turner, my personal trainer. I began working with Chuck in 2013 and learned about his involvement in corporate wellness. I hatched the idea of a wellness program specifically for surgeons and recruited Chuck. It is my belief that a combination of proper ergonomics and targeting fitness strategies can prevent many of the musculoskeletal disorders that plague surgeons of all specialties. This is the Sustainable surgeon Project.
Personal training is Chuck’s second, career after leaving a mortgage broker job. In Chuck’s words, “Fitness has always been a part of my life, and it has transformed into my passion.” Chuck has worked as a trainer in many capacities, from personal clients, to circus performers, to corporate wellness. He is an indispensable consultant for the Sustainable Surgeon Project bringing his unique combination of knowledge and enthusiasm.
